Here is a free sample letter that you can use to ask the landlord for proof that the rental deposit is held in an account separate from their personal assets.

Your landlord must inform you about this. If the landlord refuses or doesn't respond, you can withhold rent payments up to the rental deposit amount. You must pay the rent withheld once the landlord provides the proof.
